Hartals have made life in Kochi under serious troubles. Kochi has been know for the peace that we have been maintaining till long which was credited to the higher literacy rate and positive attitude of Keralites. But the recent hartals and strikes show that we no longer belong to that mighty group of people. These strikes have not only left the working lot to a standstill but these recent strikes have got even worse with people even hindering with the functioning of emergency services like ambulance and medical care.
Kochi which is now emerging as the new IT hub of south India, is loosing its fame and is getting into news for all those wrong reasons pulling down the stats of the state. After the fights for 'smart city label' and 'sez' sparely do our manpower get a chance to prove their potential, this time the 'Hartal Syndrome' has been worst ever to hit the city and even our state. The political authorities who have always been giving fake promises of economic growth of the state are not ready to leave even a single reason to call in for a 'total shutdown'. Rather than moulding the state for the better they are all behind retarding the state and making it impossible for the people who struggle to make a living.
The constitution of India provides Right to Freedom, so let the population enjoy it and let no one take away our birth rights even that be our political powers.Political parties are for the betterment of people, our candidates have always promised us a better standard of living and not a time for uninvited stress, panic and economical disintegration for the state as a whole. If they need to protest they very well do that without hindering our lives and allow us to lead a peaceful life, we have had enough of forceful closures and stone peltings for this year.
With all these uninvited holidays and even the allegations by political leaders that they are a result of US masterbrains. There is still one and maybe the only department that works all through this highs and downs, its none other than the KSEB that never forgets to put us through 'half an hour darkness' for the day, well Hartals never touch these 'High Tension' departments even if they block ambulance or they continue attacking media persons or go wild over closing down offices.
This is high time we all need to protest , 82 strikes and still counting, here is where we stand at this 8th month of the year. Can anything go worse than this. To collectively raise the voice of people in Kochi, we are bringing up a Blogger Site www.kochi2day.com, which would give all a chance to protest against whats wrong and still happening under broad daylight in the city. A better standard of life, unhindered by hartals is our demand.

Smart City Garbage Piles
Garbage disposal is a serious concern that all people in Kochi has to face daily. With the corporation authorities imposing fine and legal actions against people who are found guilty of taking wrong measures in disposing them. As a result of the new plans for a so called better change in Kochi city all the Trash Bins have been removed from their places. The explanation for which was, ' waste should be thrown inside the bin and not around it'. Maybe they didn't
notice that those trash bins where never cleared on time, an overflowing garbage bin and stinking smell of kochi has caught its attention even in movies.
The new rules and regulations have paved way for another mismanagement, collectiong waste door-to-door. This was supposed to happen on a daily basis and now which happens just once in a while in most places as these people fail to turn up for even weeks. A thought about moving out in search of Garbage bins are just in vain it is hard to find even a single one. So whats an alternative for this problem.
The hardest part of all comes when there is garbage piling up at road sides, mostly pedestrian walkways. With our almost bottle necked and badly maintained roads, these garbage piles that remain unattended for days and even weeks before being finally removed is an absolute nuisance.
So isn't there a better way? What should be done to have our city as they say - Cochin City, Clean City, Green City.

Kochi2day.com | Hope for a better city
Kochi2day.com is an interactive site that brings across to you an overview of day-to-day life in the Kochi City. With the blogs/articles you are free to express your views and thoughts about the various issues that you are most likely to face, on your day out in the city.
Kochi2day.com generally contains pages about the condition of roads in Kochi, the rash driving of the Red Killer Buses, the garbage pilled pedestrian walkways and much more. Now emerging as the new IT hub in south India, with the top most MNC's planning to open their new ventures in Kochi - The land of regular Hartals and last minute Strike Declarations, are we really on our move to be the "Smart City".
We lack badly on the conditions of our roads which can be well phrased as "Death Traps" or "Temporary Fishing Ponds", that even a small rain can turn our roads into. Are these regular 'patch works' an effective solution or do we deserve even more? No matter how hard we try we end up getting stuck in traffic jams for long morning hours on our bottle-necked roads and the mighty honking leaves us with a day long headache to deal with. How long are we going to struggle with these? Don't we have any options to choose from?
Well if you have experienced any such situations or even worse on your day-out to Kochi, feel free to share them here. You can also include your views or suggestions that could make our lives much easier. Help us decide if our Kochi city is smart enough to be the "SMART CITY"
